New Economics Foundation
I had a link to the New Green Deal policy on their website but figured that they have so many brilliant (free), timely publications on all the important issues such as our quality of life, the credit crunch and the environment that its better just to try and promote the website in general.
Particularly as it is so accessible as they provide articles and reports in plain English for anyone to understand and as such are probably doing more to promote democracy than any other charity in this country. http://www.neweconomics.org/publications

Campaign for Climate Change
This group have been organising a national march for years which takes place each winter:
"The Campaign against Climate Change brings people together to push for the urgent and resolute action we need to prevent the catastrophic destabilisation of global climate. " http://www.campaigncc.org/

Moving Towards Community
an article that most succinctly outlines much of my views about society..

Quality of life
This website sets out "a radical proposal to guide the direction of modern societies and the lives of people who live in them. In contrast to a narrow focus on economic indicators, it calls for governments to directly measure people’s subjective well-being: their experiences, feelings and perceptions of how their lives are going".

george monbiot
I know of few who talk so much sense, and less who are prepared to come up with some answers to the ecological and social problems we face.

Riverford Organics
I can't speak highly enough about the quality of their veg boxes and the whole ethos behind the company:
"about Riverford
Riverford, a family farm in Devon's Dart valley, is home to one of the UK's best-loved vegetable box schemes. Guy Watson started growing organic vegetables in 1987 on a corner of the family farm, with a wheelbarrow and a borrowed tractor. His pioneering box scheme now sends out around 45,000 boxes a week to a loyal band of customers who share his commitment to fresh, seasonal food, produced with a respect for the customer, staff, farmers and the environment. His determination to keep things local as the business grew led to the spawning of sister farms in Hampshire, Cambridgeshire and Yorkshire. By linking up with brothers Ben (meat) and Oliver (dairy), we are able to deliver our customers a large chunk of their weekly shop. From the start, the business has been committed to minimising its environmental impact, from the way food is grown through to how it is packed and delivered. Over recent years, we have been working to give this respect for the environment a more rigorous foundation. " http://www.riverford.co.uk/

Freecycle
freecycle is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills.
